Nishinomiya is just outside Osaka, the city this show has been traditionally attributed to. Somebody To Love is performed in place of Play The Game, like the first night in Fukuoka. In fact, tonight is the final time the gospel-inspired 1976 hit would be played in its entirety (during which Freddie makes a nod to Need Your Loving Tonight in the breakdown). It would still be heard on the Works tour, but as part of a medley of older songs. Instrumentally and vocally the band are strong tonight. The backing vocals are particularly solid throughout - especially in Action This Day and Put Out The Fire. Brian's guitar intro to Now I'm Here strongly hints at the beginning of It's Late, the last time the song would ever be referenced on stage. Freddie's vocal improvs in the middle of the song are very creative with the delay. He then adlibs the words 'We Can Work It Out' (a Beatles reference, or perhaps a precursor to his solo song Your Kind Of Lover?) and 'Shake Rattle and Roll' a few times before they begin Put Out The Fire. Their vocal harmonies in the song are exquisite, and a killer version of Dragon Attack follows. Overall, this is certainly the best Japanese '82 performance, although compared to the energy of the European shows earlier in the year, Queen sound very laid back and relaxed at times. In the first of many improvisations on the night, Freddie ad libs "I feel wonderful" a few times, but at one point interrupts himself and quips, "I feel cold" and continues on. Brian's solo in the improv section of Crazy Little Thing Called Love is fiery and creative. Later in the show Freddie does a Spread Your Wings improv, longer than the one he did in Hamburg earlier in the year. He sings a few lines of the song, and after admitting "I don't know the chords" with a chuckle, he decides to lead the band into a short rendition of Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting (he used the same chords for the Spread Your Wings segment but at a slower tempo). The middle section of Another One Bites The Dust becomes quite a jam. Freddie sings "Jump, jump, jump to it" a few times, referencing his favourite singer, Aretha Franklin (this is the chorus of the title track off "Jump To It," released just a couple months earlier). The band soon end up in an impromptu version of Jailhouse Rock (the only time it would be played this year) which results in a 12-bar-blues kind of jam that they hadn't done for years. A few minutes in, twice Freddie says "end it", when Brian and Roger are clearly trying to merge back into Dust. They are forced to comply. Despite the claims by the Rare Live video and Queen archivist Greg Brooks, this show was not filmed. Only the November 3 concert in Tokyo was filmed. The backstage photos were taken by Koh Hasebe. |

A great sounding pre-LP copy emerged in 2020. It is the complete show, and even though it's a second generation copy it still sounds better than any of the LPs. The sound is initially a bit muffled and then gets progressively better as the taper finds his position. By the third song the quality is fabulous. Like all copies of this source, the tape runs a bit slow. |
