City: Fukuoka, Japan
Venue: Fukuoka-shi Kyuden Kinen Taiikukan
Date: October 20, 1982

Setlist:
Flash (tape), Rock It, We Will Rock You (fast), Action This Day, Somebody To Love, Calling All Girls, Now I'm Here, Put Out The Fire, Dragon Attack, Now I'm Here (reprise), Love Of My Life, Save Me, Get Down Make Love, guitar solo, Body Language, Back Chat, Under Pressure, Fat Bottomed Girls, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting, Bohemian Rhapsody, Tie Your Mother Down, Another One Bites The Dust, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, God Save The Queen

Tonight the band revive Somebody To Love in place of Play The Game, the first time it has been omitted since they started playing it in 1980. They have also brought back Love Of My Life after being absent for the last few months. It would be performed at every remaining Queen show (minus Live Aid in 1985).

Freddie's vocal improv during Now I'm Here tonight is superb.

The funky Back Chat has returned to the set as well, after having been dropped after the first show of the North American tour. Unless it was also performed on the following night in Fukuoka, this would be its final performance. The band are a bit rusty on the song, as it takes them an extra 4 bar cycle to get into Roger's electronic drum break. During that extra cycle, Freddie says, "Go into your bit, bud!" They end the song with a fanfare just this once, instead of the sudden ending as they had done earlier in the year.

The band cover Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting" for the first time since trying it out a few times in 1977. It would be played a few nights later in Osaka, many more times in 1984-85, and once in 1986 (in Cologne, and on a Saturday night, no less).

The CDs released by the Imtrat label in Germany were briefly official releases, as explained below.

The second photo set was taken by Koh Hasebe, and they're from Fukuoka and/or October 24 in Nishinomiya (Music Life magazine sent him to shoot only those three shows).

Recording length: 103 minutes (2 LP, incomplete)
Quality: A-
Source: Audience
Lineage: "Hot Space Tour '82" LP

Track listing:
Side 1: Flash (tape), Rock It, We Will Rock You (fast), Action This Day, Somebody To Love, Calling All Girls
Side 2: Now I'm Here, Put Out The Fire, Dragon Attack, Now I'm Here (reprise), Love Of My Life, Save Me
Side 3: Get Down Make Love, guitar solo, Body Language, Back Chat, Under Pressure
Side 4: Fat Bottomed Girls, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting, Bohemian Rhapsody, Tie Your Mother Down
Side 5: Another One Bites The Dust, We Will Rock You, We Are The Champions, God Save The Queen [cut]

Back in 1983, bootleggers wanted to pass the majority of this 3-LP collection of songs off as Los Angeles '82. For this reason, Brian's speech before Love Of My Life was edited out probably because he mentioned how they were in Japan, and some of God Save The Queen is cut as Freddie probably said "sayonara", as he always did in Japan.

Over time it was realized this material must be from Japan, as the band didn't perform Love Of My Life on the North American tour. And after recordings of the other four Japanese shows emerged, the process of elimination pointed all fingers to the two nights in Fukuoka.

Sides 1-4 and the first four tracks of side 5 have since been labelled as being from October 19. Side 6 contains a different concert opening (labelled as "Flash Gordon", but actually Flash into The Hero), and it is clearly a Japanese audience heard clapping along to the songs, so these tracks therefore must be from the following night, since the other four Japanese '82 shows are accounted for. The last three tracks of side 5 are from the Milton Keynes show as stated on the LP, but they are a pretty rough-sounding audience recording.

The possibility remains that these two Fukuoka dates could be reversed, but for the sake of simplicity, the traditionally-given dates will stand until properly-labelled and uncut pre-LP tapes show up.

The length of 103 minutes is only for the songs from this date.

Calling All Girls

This disc was actually an official release in 1992. The Imtrat label discovered a loophole in German copyright law stating that live recordings of foreign artists recorded in the US were not protected. So they called the CDs "Live USA" and didn't use any images of the band on the covers, guaranteeing unlicensed but legal releases. About 300 CDs of various artists were released between 1991 and 1993 (here is a listing of all the releases).

This disc is mostly from Seattle '77, except for this one track from the first night in Fukuoka which is mislabelled as Action This Day on the cover.

All the Queen material in this Live USA series has been professionally remastered. The EQ is much different from the LPs, and the vinyl ticks were painstakingly removed one by one. However, the sound clips, resulting in a bit of distortion. The same goes for the Fukuoka material in this Live USA series.

Due to the aforementioned excessive EQing and resulting clipping, the original LP remains the best version.

Another "Live USA" disc with material from Mannheim '86 also came out.

Imtrat released two discs of Fukuoka material, taken from the old "Hot Space Tour '82" LPs. As on the disc listed above, the material has been remastered. They are all from the same audience source as above.

More info about each disc is available below, as they are additional releases of the individual discs.

Track listing:
Another One Bites The Dust, We Are The Champions, God Save The Queen [cut], Somebody To Love

Only these four tracks on this disc are from the second night, and the rest are from the first night.

We Will Rock You at the end of the show was cut out probably because the fast version from the first night is on this disc.

Track listing:

Many tracks from the second night didn't make it onto this disc probably because the versions from the first night were included on volume 2.

The final Imtrat release of the Queen material was a 3-disc set containing Live USA, Live USA Vol. 2 and Live USA Vol. 3. As before, all three discs contain material from the first night in Fukuoka.

This box was likely released in the early 90s.

The Fukuoka material is identical to Live USA volumes 2 and 3. Disc 1 is from a Mannheim '86 radio broadcast, not Wembley as some sources report.

This is a 1994 compilation bootleg. Five tracks from Fukuoka '82 are included, three of which are from the first night. The rest of the material is from the 1977 BBC session (with fake audience noise added) and Hammersmith Odeon '75.

There were three reissues of this bootleg, all of which had some kind of design flaw in the artwork. The last one was packaged in a cheap blue plastic bag to obscure the flaws.

This 3-CD set released in the late 90s is a straight copy of the above 3-LP. The discs come in a cardboard slipcase, designed to mimic the original LP.

In 2001, there were three 3-disc releases with this title. This was the first, in a double-gatefold sleeve.

Musically they are all identical. The three discs are a straight copy of the "Queen" box listed above, with the same Fukuoka and Mannheim '86 material.

This is the second "Play The Game" release, supposedly by a label called Black Panther. The given release date of 1991 is incorrect.

This 2003 release (again labelled as L.A. '82) is sourced from the Hot Space Tour '82 LP. It was transferred too loudly, leaving it with a lot of distortion.

The back cover doesn't list the last four tracks.
