This is Queen's first show of a short UK tour, consisting of two nights at Bingley Hall in Stafford and three at London's Wembley Arena. The smaller of the two crown lighting rigs was used at the Bingley shows. Freddie has further developed his image, making his grand entrance sporting leather from head to toe for the first time. Or, almost toe, as he still wears ballet shoes! Perhaps this was a way of combining his off-stage and on-stage lives into one, as the full leather look was popular in gay clubs around this time period. He once said, "I rather fancy myself as a black panther." Mercury is in excellent voice tonight. After an excellent version of Somebody To Love, Freddie inquires of the audience, referring to bad press the band usually received, "Hands up, those of you who thought we were gonna split up." No hands go up. "I didn't think you believed it one minute. It's those stupid fucking journalists. Don't believe a word. You can stamp them to bites. Don't waste your money on those papers. Just believe in the music." Brian, before Love Of My Life: "I wanna tell you, we appreciate you coming, and we appreciate you queuing up from yesterevening. It's unbelieveable." Freddie notices that the crowd is singing along to the ballad, so he stops singing during the bridge to let the audience take over. He likes what he hears, and it would be a sign of great things to come. Freddie, before My Melancholy Blues: "This is a song I wrote for Ella Fitzgerald when she popped 'round for tea the other day." A review of one of the two nights at Bingley can be found at: http://www.queencuttings.com. The second row of photos were taken by Malcolm Smith and cleaned up by Nino Trovato, and the third row was taken by Anthony Mallan. |

It seems like this is a great show, although it's hard to tell from the muffled and distorted recording. |
