Freddie sounds great tonight as he did last night. The audience chant for Mustapha again tonight, and Mercury sings the intro. "That's all they're gonna fuckin' get," he says afterward. Brian then plays a few riffs that resemble Freddie's piano part, before Roger launches the band into Dragon Attack. The Mustapha intro would become a regular thing on the Works tour, like it was in 1979. Before the big fanfare at the end of Now I'm Here, Freddie shouts, "Sock it to them, Roger!" During the day, Brian learns a few words of Italian and speaks to the audience in their native tongue during the acoustic part of the evening. The gesture is much appreciated. During Love Of My Life, he plays a beautiful version of Brahms' Lullaby like he did in London last week. The Sport Palace would collapse under snow just a few months later. Whether or not this impacted Queen's decision to skip out on Italy for the Magic Tour is unknown. Here is a review of the shows (in Italian), submitted by Alessio Rizzitelli. The second pic was submitted by Fabio Tosti. |

This is the uncut tape of the alternate source used for the LP. There is some tape hiss as it's probably a couple generations from the master. There is a cut after Now I'm Here for a tape flip, but a mere few seconds earlier than the second audience source, so Brian's few words in Italian are uncut here. |

This second audience source is another great quality recording from Milan, first emerging on this bootleg CD in 1992. The date on the CD cover has led to much confusion over the years. Disc 1 and Crazy Little Thing Called Love are from September 15. The rest of disc 2 is from September 14 (hence the given running time of only 76 minutes), except for the TV-sourced Live Aid material tagged onto the end. About 30 seconds into Under Pressure, a young woman in the audience asks in Italian, "Where's David Bowie?" |

The uncut pre-silver tape of the second audience source emerged in mid-2008, initially bought from the taper a few days after the show. It's a first gen copy, so it has a bit of tape hiss. The first tape runs out after Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and the new tape is damaged for the first few minutes, leaving most of Bohemian Rhapsody in tatters with a flanging effect beyond repair. Freddie's speech introducing Spike Edney is cut for the tape change; along with the Bohemian Rhapsody tape flaws, this explains why the first night was used on the We Will Love You bootleg from this point onward. Brian's brief speech before Is This The World We Created is cut for a tape flip as well (a longer cut than on the first source). |

Wardour released a 4-disc bootleg in December 2008 containing both Milan shows. For the second night they have created a complete recording by using all available tape in the best possible quality. Like the first two discs, they applied a bit of hiss reduction. They used the LP source for Bohemian Rhapsody, and removed all the vinyl ticks in the sound. All these careful edits make this undoubtedly the definitive copy of the show. Here's a link to the always-reliable GS review: http://www.collectorsmusicreviews.com |
