Queen's last US performance was an appearance on Saturday Night Live. They played Crazy Little Thing Called Love and Under Pressure between skits. The former was officially released in 2004 as part of a DVD package commemorating 25 years of SNL. Since it was the first episode of Saturday Night Live of the autumn TV season, the aim was to re-establish the band's popularity for a large TV audience after the mediocre public response to Hot Space. But they did not come off as overly impressive, since Freddie's performance was not up to par. Apparently he had a fight with his boyfriend the whole night before (the same guy he fought with the day before the Milton Keynes show). The screaming match left him in very poor voice - perhaps the worst it ever sounded. According to an early tour itinerary, a show in Hawaii was initially planned for September 26. Perhaps they discarded the idea in favour of performing on national television instead. The third picture was submitted by Fabio Minero. |
