A Night At The Opera is released today. The album would be Queen's first to gain global critical acclaim, and it launched them to worldwide superstardom. While the band would pen many other great records and enjoy a plethora of further achievements, A Night At The Opera was almost certainly their creative and artistic peak. Their stylistic diversity, their use of the studio to express their vast musical vision onto tape, and their achievement of the perfect balance of intricacy and accessibility were all never greater than on this album. Queen's stamp onto the evolution of music was indelibly set. This article from a 1977 issue of Record Mirror mentions the album and ensuing tour. The photos were taken by Al Brown. |
